What's a Body Fat Analyser ? How does it work ?

Terraillon uses fast, secure and reliable technology that has been medically attested - the body fat analyser. Enter your age, height and sex before stepping onto the scales. A low-intensity current passes through your lower limbs - sensors are located on the platform of the scales - and measures the resistance or the 'impedance' to this signal. By differentiating between the impedance of lean and of fatty tissue, the device calculates the percentage of fat in the body (fatty mass contains less water than lean body mass and therefore provides a greater resistance to the current).

Why would you measure your body fat ?

Terraillon ‘Body Fat Analysers’ (bathroom scales that measure body fat) provide a fuller picture of the composition of your body compared to traditional scales. These scales differentiate lean mass (muscles, bones) from fat. You can therefore check whether your diet or sports routine is leading to a loss of water or whether you are actually burning fat!

When should I measure my body fat ?

Similarly to weighing yourself, we recommend that you should measure your body fat once or twice a week under the same conditions and using the same body fat analyser (preferably in the morning, naked, and in a hydrated condition). It is important not to focus on day-to-day changes to your fat levels but to monitor any variations over time.

What is the Calorie function ?

How many daily calories do you need to consume to maintain or lose weight? The Calorie function on the body fat analyser indicates the recommended number of calories to reach your goal.

What is the athlete mode ?

An athlete can be defined as someone who trains intensively for at least 2 hours 3 times a week. In certain cases, the standard method of body fat measurement can overestimate body fat in athletes. Athletes are prone to physiological changes to their muscle density and hydration levels. For this reason, we recommended switching to the athlete mode to obtain more accurate results.

What is the point in monitoring our muscle mass and osseous mass ?

This information allows you to monitor the composition of your body and how it changes. Even if your weight does not vary, you can check that your muscle mass has increased in comparison to your overall mass.

Can we use a body fat analyser with a Pacemaker ?

No, you cannot use these products. As a general rule you should avoid all sources of electronic interference if you have a pacemaker (a device to regulate your heartbeat).

How can i consider my results ?

Your results are indicated as a percentage of your total body weight. A ‘results evaluation bar’ on the screen indicates where your body fat level is situated compared to the medically recommended values (a reasonable percentage of body fat in men is between 14 and 26%; for women it is between 20 and 33%).

The body water (the water content in the body) is also a source of information. By calculating the percentage of body water, Terraillon body fat analysers also indicate the amount of water in your body.
