Obesity is an ever-increasing global problem, considered the "epidemic of the century" by the World Health Organization (WHO): Across the world 1 billion adults are overweight, of whom 3 million are obese. The situation is also becoming extremely alarming for children and teenagers.
Terraillon is aware of this public health issue and has taken several steps to help families in their day-to-day lives.
- The company is a partner of the EPODE (Ensemble Prévenons l'Obésité Des Enfants) [Together Let's Prevent Childhood Obesity] programme, which has the objective of preventing childhood obesity in towns and schools in France.
- A newly created product category, Family Body Control, is a tool to detect weight problems from a very early age.
There is an easy and reliable way to detect obesity: the BMI (Body Mass Index)
The Body Control Family calculates the BMI of the entire family and provides a precise reading that can be understood immediately and easily:
- - For adults
- - For children from the age of 2: The BMI is then compared to body fat curves to give results which take into account specific growth-related factors. The data and weight categories used by Terraillon's Body Control are those established by the WHO.
