Sun, terraces, mini skirts and dark glasses... hmm... Feels like summer! And, let's be honest, we all look better in the hot season. Just watch the thermometer rise and let the sun's rays make us radiant.
Let those who prefer the ghostly pale of December and 15 layers of jumpers make the first comment.
But be careful, the living may be easy in summer, but you need to take precautions in the heat.
Here's some advice for a safe summer.
- By all means take advantage of the sun, but protect yourself, too. The fashion for being ultra-bronzed is no more, because it causes wrinkles. A mild tan is a much better look. Even in the shade you can still get a tan. So avoid direct sunlight and use at least factor 30.
- Stay hydrated. It's the number one beauty tip for summer. It's important to stay hydrated all year round, but it's absolutely vital in the summer months. So drink plenty of water (or maybe some iced tea) and use a protective, moisturising cream.
- Tone up. Stop with the lame excuses, like "I don't have the time!" It happens throughout the year, but more in summer. Holidays are perfect for getting some exercise: take some time for your self. What are your plans this year? Going to the beach? Then go for a swim regularly, and take a walk for 10 or 15 minutes every day in the sea. Heading for the mountains? Then there's no excuse! Take a stroll on the gentler slopes and reshape your entire lower body. Not going away this year? Don't give in, make sure you get some sun in any case. Walk or cycle instead of taking the underground, car or bus.
- Dare to wear different colours! Not all at the same time, but try some out! It's the season to play the siren with a sweep of azure blue pencil, even on hazel eyes. Or do you prefer lipstick? Try a vitamin-enriched tangerine lip gloss. It's this summer's new red! Don't forget your suntanned feet... They'll l-o-v-e your new flashy nail varnish in your golden sandals!
- Give your hair a break! It's on holiday, too, after all. But be careful, the sun and the sea are its worst enemies. Even if you just leave your hair alone while away, make sure you rinse it carefully to remove any traces of salt and chlorine (if you opt for the pool over the sea), and make sure you condition. Use a protective oil every day and a restorative mask each time you shampoo. Finally, put away the hair dryer and any kind of heated appliances! Leave your hair down or loosely tie it up. It suits the current fashion for relaxed and wavy hairstyles.
Now, I think you're ready to jump straight into the season we all wait for every year.
One last piece of advice: Take care of yourself!
