Is 2014 the year of the connected activity tracker band? It's highly likely. They are gradually becoming incorporated into our daily lives and according to the CES* of Las Vegas, this is just the beginning. They are growing more intelligent all the time and have long since passed the stage of measuring sports performance. Today, these connected bands calculate and analyse all our movements. But what for?
Each day, the band collects a multitude of data on our life during the day and at night. All this data is presented in the form of graphs, figures and progress indicators via a constant connection to our smartphone supporter. The idea is to prevent and even correct our bad habits.
Continuous measurement throughout the day
OMS recommends 10,000 steps a day. My band tells me I barely take 3000. I have to get moving! Today I burned 460 calories during my sports session! I burned off this afternoon's chocolate bar! That's how a tracker regulates our lives, improves our habits and help us stay on form - basically it just does us good!
The connected tracker band records our whole day. As you already know, it counts our steps and calculates how many calories we use, it even measures how sleepy we are... but look what else it can do now: as this digital companion becomes more and more efficient, it chooses the best time to wake us up, according to our sleep cycles. And yes, it might be 20 minutes earlier than usual, but this avoids waking us up in the middle of a new deep sleep cycle, when it seems we need a tow truck to drag us out of our slumber! That's the function of the silent alarm. The band vibrates on our wrist, sending a light shiver that gently wakes us up: it's time! Isn't it fantastic?
In short, we move more, we eat better, sleep deeper and above all we are more motivated to achieve our goals. Soon these bands will be indispensable. Every day more and more people are using them, making them the health partners of tomorrow. Next year on Valentine's Day, forget the love bracelet, and give an altogether different kind of gift, the gift of technology: the connected activity tracker band.
